At the “Cultural Connections: A Celebration of Black and Brown Literature” event in Springfield, families were invited to meet local authors and explore a wide range of books that celebrate diversity and teach valuable life lessons. One of the highlights of the event was my book series, Harold from the Hood. This series features a lovable character, Harold, a friendly snail who guides children on a journey of learning about empathy, respect, and how to navigate social interactions. Each book in the series tackles different aspects of social skills, such as understanding others’ feelings, recognizing and respecting differences, resolving conflicts, and building positive relationships with peers.
The stories are designed to help children connect with each other, teaching them that it’s okay to have different likes, dislikes, and ways of thinking. They highlight the importance of kindness, inclusivity, and embracing diversity—core values that are essential for building a compassionate and supportive community.
What makes Harold from the Hood particularly impactful is its ability to simplify complex social concepts and present them in a way that young readers can easily understand and relate to. Whether it’s dealing with disagreements, learning to appreciate differences, or making new friends, Harold is there to offer gentle guidance and support.
At the event, I was thrilled to see families engaging with the books, and it was clear that the stories were resonating with both children and parents alike. It was a wonderful experience to connect with the Springfield community and share how Harold from the Hood is helping children develop emotional intelligence and build meaningful connections.
If you’re looking for a way to support your child’s emotional growth and social development, Harold from the Hood is a fun, engaging, and heartwarming series that provides the perfect blend of education and entertainment.
