Life can take us in many different directions as we find our way though understanding what we are meant to do in our lives. This can be around meeting goals that we set for ourselves or handling all the responsibilities that entails all the facets of life. Even my own process of becoming an author and educator each had its own path that I had to follow which included taking those steps and making clear and conscious plans to help move towards achieving those goals that I wanted to achieve. Were there stressful points along the way, of course there were and making a decision on how to address those points of stress can be very important towards aspirations of reaching your goals. Research has noted that 90% of Americans feel that the United States is in a mental health crisis and that 77% report that stress affects their physical health. The combination of these two elements of mental health and stress brings forth a need to further look at how we can improve our self care support in order to help relieve and assist in bringing our mental health and stress into a healthy balance.
Oftentimes we have to take some time to recharge emotionally to be able to have the balance needed to tackle challenges that we meet in our lives. This can be correlated with managing our time of self care to relieve some of our stress as research has noted that 33% of people report feeling extreme stress at times in their lives. When we are emotionally balanced we are able to make better decisions in our lives and can look at hurdles in our lives that we face in a more logical way. A few ways to move in the direction of being able to recharge ourselves emotionally can include steps such as, connecting yourself with supportive people that share a similar mindset, talking with trusted people, and practicing mindfulness with deep breathing and meditation. These tips can be a few points that can be helpful and at the same time there has to be a starting point to be able to focus on. This can be looked at as maintaining the healthy basics which includes making sure that you prioritize getting good sleep and being more consciously aware of your nutrition and eating habits. These elements can be the starting point towards recharging emotionally.
Even within the confines of the structure of going to our places of employment and meeting required obligations of that job to maintain employment, we often can forget the sphere of influence of that job’s impact on our emotional wellbeing. It’s okay to take short intentional breaks to help keep things in balance. It’s also important to be able to set boundaries to protect your energy from over commitment in situations. Sometimes you will need to put yourself first and express yourself if you’re overwhelmed with something going on in your life. It can also be helpful to share your feelings with your supportive friends or family who can uplift you while giving you a different perspective through conversation on things going on in life.
Another step that can assist is challenging your inner critical thoughts which means that we stop negative self talk and replace that negative self talk with balanced thoughts and positive thinking. A good way to incorporate balanced thoughts can be to practice gratitude by focusing on good things happening within your life regardless if it’s big or small. This creates a vacuum of slowly changing your mindset to recognize the many good things transpiring in your life as often when people are in a stressed mindset we tend to focus more on what is not going right in life and forget all the positive progress we have made. Seeking professional help with therapy can be useful as well as therapy can help provide you the tools you need to be able to manage your stress and emotional health in a safe environment without judgement or bias.
There are a few recharging activities that you can include into your daily routine to help bring emotional balance and decrease stress. One being emotionally checking in with your own needs. This could look like keeping a journal where you write about celebrating small victories in life for example to build balanced thinking. There is also sensory soothing which can look like taking a warm bath or hot shower, listening to music, or using calm scents such as scented candles to ease stress and calm emotions. When your mind is in an emotionally balanced state it can help allow for better responses to challenges and help you to be able to deepen your relationships with family and friends that support you through increased empathy. These are just a few steps that can be included within your daily routine to help become more emotionally balanced and recharged. A few other key benefits include being able to help prevent burnout, improved self regulation and focus which leads to more positive emotions that can help you better control impulses and manage tasks better while dealing with a stressful situation. Recharging emotionally can have a great impact within many domains within your life and can help alleviate levels of stress which leads to better mental health and mindset. You can’t give others your best self if you yourself are emotionally unbalanced. Let’s continue to look to grow, progress and take charge of the direction of our lives as we all should. Thanks for walking this journey with me and continued blessing.
